Unit for National Migration Issues, Ministry of Justice

We are looking for a case officer for the unit for national migration issues. The unit works with issues related to the reception of asylum seekers and the asylum process, labor migration, family reunification, citizenship, revocation of residence permits, and return migration. The unit is also responsible for government oversight of the Swedish Migration Agency and budget work within expenditure area 8 Migration, as well as handling individual cases and environmental analysis.

In this role, you will work with the processing of so-called security cases, i.e., appeals against the Migration Agency's decisions regarding Swedish citizenship. You will also handle individual complaints against Sweden before international bodies in cases related to migration. The work involves processing incoming cases, communicating with authorities, applicants, and their representatives, as well as preparing decision-making materials for the political leadership. You will have many contacts within the ministry as well as with other ministries and the Migration Agency. Other usual departmental work will also be included in your tasks.

To be successful in this role, you need to thrive in a sometimes fast-paced work environment. In this role, you will represent the unit and the Ministry of Justice in various contexts.

Your background

We are looking for someone with an academic degree in a relevant field, e.g., political science or law. The role requires current experience in handling individual migration cases and good knowledge of Swedish public administration. You need to have excellent oral and written communication skills in both Swedish and English.

It is an advantage if you have experience in case processing work in the Government Offices and experience from work within the unit's other areas of responsibility.

Your qualities

The role requires you to have a very good analytical ability and think strategically. Since the work involves many points of contact, it is important that you have excellent collaboration skills. In this role, you need to have good initiative and quality awareness, as well as a structured working method. Working in a political environment also requires a high degree of flexibility and good judgment. We place great importance on personal suitability.

Other

This is a fixed-term employment until March 14, 2026, with a possibility of extension. Start as soon as possible. A security review will be conducted before a decision on employment is made. There is some possibility for remote work if the operations allow.
